This lovingly handcrafted scrunchie is upcycled from salvaged authentic vintage obi — a traditional Japanese sash or belt worn with clothing like kimonos. Snug fit elastic inside a floofy cloud of fabric will keep your hair up.
A portion of proceeds from the sale of this scrunchie goes towards our neighbourhood's migrant brothers via HV Little Library — both food and dental funds. Our founder, Kay, was whinging about the heat and humidity one afternoon while sewing scrunchies. She realised she could simply turn the AC on, whereas migrant workers in her neighbourhood, who toiled under difficult weather conditions, don't have that luxury, so she decided to make a difference.
Your purchase will contribute to the food and dental funds. The food fund caters or purchases food for our migrant brothers on special occasions, and the dental fund facilitates emergency visits to the dentist for urgent dental work, as their contracts' health insurance doesn't cover dental work. This is facilitated by HV Little Library.
Quantity: This listing is for 1 scrunchie.
Please note: This item is handmade and pattern placement may vary based on the print. All fabric has been inspected and any variations or splotches in the background of the fabrics are intentional and not imperfections. There is a small opening in the seam of the scrunchie; this is intentional as elastics loosen over time from stretch wear and tear, and the opening is to facilitate repair. Locate the opening, cut the stretched elastic and remove, and replace with a new elastic. When worn, the opening is not visible and does not affect use.
Materials: Made from vintage Japanese obi.
Washing: Hand wash with gentle laundry detergent. Hang dry. Do not use fabric softener.
